Abstract
1,109,709. Mounting arc furnace electrodes. METALECTRIC FURNACES Ltd. (Consarc Corporation). 1 April, 1966, No. 14454/66. Heading H5H. [Also in Division H2] An electrode stub clamp 10 comprises a hollow housing 14 open at one end, a perforated cage 22 reciprocably disposed in said housing, members 38 in said housing movable into positions projecting partially into said cage through the perforations, and means for connecting an electrical conductor 12 to the other end of the housing, the housing and members being made from a material which is a good electrical conductor. The members 38 engage a groove 78 in an electrode stub 70. Swinging movement of the electrode due to electromagnetic or other forces is prevented by three pins 52 which are locked into engagement with a bevelled surface 72 on the stub 70 by drifts 62 each having a vertical passage into which a pin 52 can enter in the inoperative position of the drift. A guard 16 is secured to the bottom of the cage 22 by screws and spacing washers of electrical and thermal insulating material. To release the stub 70, the drifts 62 are moved to their inoperative positions, the weight of the electrode and stub is supported from below and the body 14 is lowered by the water-cooled ram 12 so as to slide over the cage 22, the balls 38 being pushed out of contact with the stub 70. The cage 22 is locked in position by a latch 46 and the clamp can then be raised free of the stub 70.
