Abstract

1,107,035. Web treating apparatus. C. DUCKWORTH. 28 Sept., 1965 [2 Oct., 1964], No. 40134/64. Heading D1L. Apparatus for treating textile material in open width with a fluid comprises a liquid treatment tank 7, squeeze rollers 8 feeding the material through the tank at constant speed, drive means for varying the speed and direction of rotation of the rollers whereby the material is passed to and fro through the tank, a collecting beam 11 adjacent each end of the tank and fluid-tight housing enclosing at least the beams 11. In the preferred embodiment a pair of squeeze rollers 8 is provided at each end of the tank, the lower roller being partially immersed in the liquid in the tank The collecting beams are journalled in trolleys 12 for easy removal from a fluid-tight housing 5 enclosing the whole apparatus. The tank is connected via valved pipes to treatment liquid and fluid containers Fig. 2 (not shown). In an alternative embodiment Fig. 3 (not shown), the collecting beams are mounted on pivotal side frames (36) for movement into and out of the housing. Heating elements may be provided in the housing to maintain gases therein above 100‹C and to minimise condensation of water vapour over the material passage, and the housing may be insulated to reduce heat loss. A method of using the apparatus comprises dyeing the material by passage to and fro through the tank, followed by steam fixation and finally washing, all processes being carried out in the same apparatus by the appropriate opening and closing of valves.
