Abstract
Oriented polyethylene film or sheet having high permeability to oxygen and low permeability to water vapour is made from compositions comprising 10 to 50 weight per cent of polyethylene of standard melt index substantially 0 and high load melt index 0 to 3, 30 to 80 weight per cent of particulate filler material and 10 to 60 weight per cent of a plasticizer which is a hydrocarbon oil of viscosity 200-600 S.U.S. at 38 DEG C. The filler may be clay, talc, mica, calcium, carbonate, titanium dioxide, ferric oxide or carbon black. Films prepared by blow extrusion may be used for packaging living plants, green vegetables and the like.
