Abstract

1,193,968. Sulphur-resistant containers. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 4 Dec., 1967 [23 Sept., 1966 (2)], Nos. 42618/66 and 42619/66. Heading B1X. [Also in Divisions C1, F2 and F4] In a method of heating sulphur vapour or a mixture containing sulphur vapour, the vapour is heated to a temperature of above 500‹C. in a metal container and those parts of the container liaible to come into contact with the hot vapour are made of an alloy consisting of aluminium and one or more of the metals iron, nickel and titanium, the proportion by weight of aluminium being at least 20% (30% preferred) of the total content of aluminium, iron, nickel and titanium. The container may be coated with aluminium (e.g. calorised) in order to further enhance its corrosion resistance to the hot sulphur vapours. The alloys may be used for the tubes of a device for superheating sulphur vapour to temperatures above 800‹C.
