Abstract

1,191,668. Open end spinning. T.M.M. (RESEARCH) Ltd. 7 Nov., 1967 [8 Nov., 1966], No. 50030/66. Heading D1D. An open end spinning rotor 11 is closed at one end, as shown its lower end, and is open at its other end and has a wall extending between the ends free from perforations or apertures to provide a fibre collecting surface. As shown, the rotor 11 mounted on a spindle 12 driven by belt 17, is enclosed within a casing 15, the casing being movable to shift spindle 12 out of driving engagement with the belt. An outlet 33 of the casing is connected to a tube 32 leading to a suction pump so that air is drawn into the casing through a funnel shaped fibre inlet 27 and to a lesser extent through the yarn delivery tube 25. Inlet 27 and tube 25 are mounted in a lid 23 which has a downwardly extending part (24), see Fig. 2, not shown, fitting with small clearance within the rotor. A radial recess is provided in the lid adjacent the air outlet 33 so that should the rotor become choked with fibres the air stream will clear the rotor without the lid 23 being removed.
