Abstract
1,190,997. Respiratory apparatus. N. N. URBANOWICZ. 11 July, 1967 [24 Sept., 1966], No. 31930/67. Heading AST. [Also in Division B2] A spray producer suitable for discharging a medicament in the form of a mist comprises a receptacle 10 holding a quantity of liquid 12 to be neutralized, a gas discharge device having an outlet orifice (24), Fig. 2 (not shown) in its upper surface (26), and float means 20 for floating the device in the liquid 12 with the surface (26) held close to the level of the surface of the liquid. The surface (26) may be slightly above or slightly below the liquid surface and the thin film of liquid on the surface (26) is atomized by the gas forced through the orifice (24). A plurality of gas orifices may be provided. A baffle (30) is preferably located above the orifice (24). The gas is supplied through a tube 32 provided with a nipple which is passed through the wall of the receptacle to facilitate cleaning. The spray is conducted away through tubes 34, 36, the lower end of the tube 34 being apertured. to permit the entry of secondary air. The apparatus may be 'used without the tubes 34, 36. The spray may optionally be recirculated to the receptacle from the patient through an inlet 40. The device 16 is adjustably mounted with respect to the platform 18 of the float device to accommodate liquids of different density. Figs. 4 and 5 (not shown) depict a modification having an annular float, the gas nozzle being adjustably mounted by screw means. The gas discharge outlet may be formed in the float itself.
