Abstract

1,190,113. Washing surgical instruments. A. JOHNSON & CO. (LONDON) Ltd. 14 April, 1969 [6 Feb., 1968], No. 5958/68. Heading A4F. In apparatus for washing surgical instruments and other articles, supports 1 for the articles are carried by an intermittently moving conveyer 4 to be sprayed with liquid in first zones 6, 9, 10 and in a further zone 8, whilst in an intermediate zone 7 a container 28 of liquid is lifted, as by a ram 30, to immerse the articles in the liquid which is then vibrated at ultrasonic frequency as by transducers 29. In the zones 6, 9 and 8 the articles are sprayed with cold water, hot detergent solution, and hot water, respectively, from U-shaped manifolds 12, 13 each rotated to and fro about horizontal axes. Hot detergent solution is also supplied to the container 28, whilst in the zone 10 the articles are sprayed with hot water from a stationary manifold 26. In a final zone 11 the articles are dried by a hot air stream provided by a fan 35 and an electrical heater or a steam fed heat exchanger. In an alternative embodiment the rotary sprayers each comprise three U-shaped manifolds.
