Abstract

1,189,464. Making steel strip; working at specified temperatures. RICHARD THOMAS & BALDWINS Ltd. 6 Feb., 1969 [6 Nov., 1967], No. 50352/67. Headings B3A and B3V. [Also in Division C7] Mild steel strip for deep drawing is hot rolled at 850-950‹ C., and coiled below 600‹ C., preferably below 550‹ C., after which it is cold worked to the final desired gauge and decarburized in open coil condition at 700- 820‹ C. The proportion of cube on corner texture, and hence the average strain ratio, is increased by the process. The steel is a rimming or aluminium stabilized steel containing up to 0À1% initial C. In an example, a 0À04% C. rimming steel is finish rolled at 900‹ C., coiled at 575‹ C., cold worked and heated to 780‹ C., in 8-12 hrs., in a H 2 -N 2 atmosphere, after which water vapour is added to the decarburizing atmosphere and the steel held at temperature for 10 hrs. In another example, the steel is coiled at 455‹ C.
