1,189,161. Electrically-heated floors or stairs. KAUFFER & CO. G.m.b.H. 1 May, 1967 [29 April, 1966; 21 Oct., 1966], No. 20061/67. Heading H5H. An electrical heating mat embedded in a floor or stair comprises a metallic heat-distributing grid 1 with interwoven or incorporated heating members or cables 3, electrically insulated therefrom, and current supply conductors 2 or, alternatively, a heating element 19, comprising a plurality of heating cables 8 arranged in parallel and with supply conductors 9, 10 embedded in a stair 17 beneath a mat 18 of structural steel mesh (see also Figs. 5, 6, 7 and 9, not shown). Supply leads 11, 12 and an earth wire 16 are attached. The grid 1 or mat 18 distribute the heat uniformly over the whole surface of the floor or stair and provide mechanical protection for the heating elements. A heating cable comprises a wire 4 woven as a weft wire together with insulating warp threads 5 and embedded in a silicone sleeve 6 of high heat resistance and good electrical insulating properties with an outer resilient sleeve 7 of synthetic material of some mechanical strength. The heating mats are made with water-tight and heat resistant insulation on the current conducting parts.
