Abstract
1,188,035. Recovery of copper. Y. P. P. MAYOR,. and P. F. TORD. 24 Nov., 1967 [25 Nov., 1966], No. 53537/67. Heading C1A. Copper in the final form of copper sulphate is extracted from an elementary copper-containing material by treating with an extracting solution of cupric chloride and' an alkali metal- or an alkaline earth metal chloride, and oxidizing the resulting solution to precipitate copper' oxychloride which is separated and treated with sulphuric acid to form copper sulphate which is separated' by crystallization. The extracting solution is recovered by mixing the copper oxychloride and copper sufphate mother liquors. A non-ionic wetting agent such as the sucrates or polyoxyethylene phenols may be added to the extracting solution in a proportion of between 0À01 and 0-1% by weight of the extracting solution. The starting material may be iron ores, pyrites and pyrrhotite cinders, ores containing elementary copper and copper ores such as chalcopyrite. These materials may be roasted and, if necessary, reduced, to form the coppercontaining material.
