Plants, watering.-A machine for use in transplanting is provided with a check-wire operated device whereby the plants which are inserted by hand in the furrow made are accurately positioned at equal distance apart and are supplied with water. The machine is supported on a castor wheel 29 and main wheels 17 rotating on a fixed axle 16, on which vertical bars 19 are adjustably secured. The bars 19 are connected at their lower and upper ends by beams 24, 26 to angle-bars 22 connected to the tongue 21 of the machine. Seats S for the operators are provided upon rearwardlyextending portions of the beams 24, and a barrel 31 containing water for the plants ia secured across the top bars 26. The checking heads are carried on frames G hinged to side frames F supported by the main axle and a bar 25 extending across the beams 26. The frames may be swung about their hinges into a vertical position for transport. Each checking head carries guide rollers by which the check wire 56 is brought into position to operate a fork carried on a rock shaft 58 supported in the checking frame. Each rock shaft is provided at its inner end with a crank and is adapted to transmit motion through links 61, 62, Fig. 3, to one or other of two shaft sections 49, 49<1> mounted in brackets above the axle 16. A collar 65 rotatably mounted at the meeting ends of the shaft sections 49, 49' is adapted to be oscillated at each operation of a checking head and through a link L throws in a one-revolution clutch on a counter-shaft carrying the operating devices for the gauge member and the water supplying devices. The driving member of the clutch receives its motion from one of the ground wheels of the machine. A hand-operated device is provided to permit rotation of the countershaft when the checking heads are dismantled. The operating-devices for the water supply and the gauge member comprise adjustable tappets which strike spring-retracted cams, one cam operating through rods 88, 88<1> and a member 89 a valve on the water-supply pipe.
