Abstract

1,185,061. Tunnels &c. E. NUTTALL SONS & CO. (LONDON) Ltd. 2 Oct., 1967 [23 Jan., 1967; 10 May, 1967], Nos. 3335/67 and 21800/ 67. Heading E1F. In a tunnel lining comprising a series of rings built up from pre-formed segments, the segments 1 of a ring are connected to an adjacent ring built up of segments 6 by rods 4 passing through the segments 1 and engaging nuts 5 housed in the segments 6. The nuts 5 are also screwed to, or integral with, rods fixing the segments 6 to the next adjacent ring. A ring is built up of ordinary segments of equal length, a key segment, and a special segment on each side of the key segment, the length of the two special and the key segments being equal to the length of two ordinary segments. The segments in adjacent rings may be staggered. In a tunnel construction the first ring is fixed to a foundation.
