Abstract
1,183,921. Aircraft wing pivots. BRITISH AIRCRAFT CORP. Ltd. 5 April, 1968 [6 Jan., 1967], No. 870/67. Headings B7G and B7W. [Also in Division E2] An aircraft wing pivot assembly comprises a hollow spool 2 having external surfaces 3, 4 for rotatably supporting the root of a wing (shown as lugs 18a and 18b), and pin 5 within the spool to secure it to a pair of vertically spaced members 1a, 1b of the aircraft. The surfaces 3, 4 may be tapered and fitted with tapered bushes 21, 22 secured on by nuts 23, 24. The normal bearing surfaces are between members 19 and 21 and between members 20 and 22. Should these stick, then motion can take place between surfaces 14 and 16 and between surfaces 15 and 17. Out-of-plane loads are transmitted from the wing to the fuselage by surfaces 28, 29 on the wing sliding on bearings 26,. 27 on the aircraft structure. The clearances at these latter surfaces is adjusted by shims 30, 31. The clearances at bearings 19 and 20 can be reduced by driving the bushes 21 and 22 on to the spool 2.
