Abstract

1,173,975. Acyl- and alkyl-phenols. ESSO RESEARCH & ENG. CO. 10 Nov., 1967, No. 51237/67. Heading C2C. [Also in Divisions C3 and C5] p-Tetracosanoyl phenol is prepared by passing nitrogen through a stirred, heated (90‹ C.) mixture of phenol, tetracosanoic acid and boron trifluoride etherate for eight hours, allowing the mixture to stand before pouring into ice/water, filtering, washing with water and drying. p-Behenoyl phenol is prepared as above using behenic acid. C 18 -C 30 + alkyl phenols are prepared by heating to 190‹ C. a mixture of phenol, a mixture of C 18 -C 80 + olefins and a clay catalyst, filtering, washing with water and drying.
