Abstract

1,172,661. Quaternary ammonium and phosphonium boron complexes. DOW CORNING CORP. 4 Jan., 1968 [27 March, 1967], No. 641/68. Heading C2C. [Also in Division C3T] The invention comprises boron complexes of the general formula wherein Q represents a monovalent hydrocarbon radical, X represents a nitrogen or phosphorous atom, R represents a substituent which activates the benzene ring e.g. an alkyl cycloalkyl, aryl, amino, hydroxyl, or alkoxy radical and n equals 0, 1 or 2 are prepared by reacting 1 mol of B(OR<SP>1</SP>) 3 where R<SP>1</SP> represents an alkyl radical of 1-4 carbon atoms with 2 mols of catechol or an R n -substituted catechol where R and n are as defined above and at least 1 mol of Q 4 NOH or Q 4 POH where Q is as defined above at a temperature from room temperature to the reflux temperature of the mixture. The compounds are used as catalysts in the preparation of siloxane polymers.
