[Also in Divisions B5 and E1] A composite roofing material comprises a moisture impermeable covering layer 11' e.g. of plastics material reinforced by a woven glass fibre scrim 13, adhered to a flexible web underlayer 15 of a porous open cell synthetic plastic foam material e.g. polyurethane, polyethylene, chlorinated' polyethylene or polyvinyl chloride or of a pervious fibrous fabric whose fibres are substantially resistant to water absorption, so that vapours therein may be freely vented, the covering layer extending beyond the flexible web underlayer along at least one edge to provide a selvage. Specified plastics materials are chlorinated polyethylene, chlorosulphonated polyethylene, polyvinyl chloride, polychloroprene, polyisobutylene and polyvinyl fluoride; additives e.g. fillers pigments and stabilisers optionally being admixed therewith. The scrim may be incorporated in the covering layer by sandwiching it under heat and pressure between sheets of plastics material or by laminating the scrim with a single plastics material sheet which forms the outer surface of the composite material. The covering layer may also comprise a sandwich of a plastics material with other materials. The roofing material may be made by heat or adhesive bonding of a layer of plastics material to a foam layer, by forming a foam layer between two sheets of plastics material and slitting the resultant foam layer or by direct expansion of a foam forming composition on a sheet of plastics material.
