[Also in Division H5] In apparatus for electroslag melting in a cooled mould 6, two electrodes 3, 4 (or two sets of electrodes) are connected in series to a supply source, e.g. a secondary winding 12 of a singlephase transformer 10, and are advanced together into a slag bath 5 to be consumed; in order to equalize the rate of linear consumption of the electrodes, a connection 11 is made between the supply and the slag bath, e.g. between a centre tap O of the winding 12 and the mould bottom 8. Alternatively, the connection 11 may be between the centre tap (O<SP>1</SP>) of a winding (14) of a choke (13) connected in parallel with the secondary winding 12. The electrodes may be of metals of different melting points.
