Abstract
1,166,720. Crimping yarn. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 28 March, 1968 [14 April, 1967], No. 17271/67. Heading D1F. In a stuffer-box crimper comprising a crimper 11 with adjustable counter-pressure means 18, means 12 for feeding yarn to the crimper at a constant known rate, a buffer chamber 15 and means 16 for drawing yarn from the chamber 15 at a known rate, photoelectric means 20 are provided in the chamber 15 for measuring the amount of yarn therein, and providing a signal smoothly related thereto, the signal being used to change the pressure on the counter-pressure means 18. The photoelectric means comprise photoelectric cells 20 and illuminating means 21 which may be located in the walls of the chamber 15 to project into the chamber or not, or outside the chamber, the chamber being provided with holes, slots or transparent means. The illuminating means 21 may be positioned opposite the photoelectric cells or at one end of the chamber. The pressure on the counter-pressure means 18 may be supplied by a cylinder and piston 19.
