Abstract
1,166,500. Coating moving flexible webs. FUJI SHASHIN FILM K.K. 21 Dec., 1966 [23 Dec, 1965], No. 57264/66. Heading D1L. The supporting means 6 for a flexible web 5 in the region of a coating device 1 is connected to an electric source 7 and the coating liquid 2 is earthed to provide an electric potential difference between the liquid and the supporting means which are also electrically insulated from one another. The provision of such an electric potential difference improves the stability of the bridge 4 of coating liquid in the cases of the travelling speed of the web being increased, the clearance d increased or the rate of supply of the coating liquid reduced. The coating device may be a slide type hopper (as shown) or an extrusion type hopper. The coating liquid may be as a photographic emulsion. The liquid may be insulated from the supporting means by coating the undersurface of the web (e.g. paper) with an insulating film or resin.
