Abstract
1,166,249. Electro-deposition of polymeric material. VIANOVA KUNSTHARZ A.G. Sept.21, 1966 [Sept.21, 1965], No.42224/66. Heading C7B. Conductive objects are electro-coated by simultaneous deposition from an aqueous soap solution of the following components formed with a water miscible nitrogen base, viz. (I) a waterinsoluble phenol formaldehyde condensation product (resol) which is soluble in a caustic alkali and (II) a polyester resin having both carboxy groups and hydroxy groups and which is obtained by the reaction of (a) a polyhydroxy compound with (b) an adduct of (c) maleic acid or adduct forming analogues thereof with (d) an unsaturated fat oil or the acids thereof or with a hydroxyfree polyol ester of said acids, said components I and II being in physical admixture or chemically combined. The resol (I) may be reacted with the polyester resin (II) at elevated temperature, the reaction being carried out either with the starting materials or intermediate products for the polyester resin, or with the polyester resin itself, either during preparation of the resin or in a separate final working step. The resol (I) may be formed from an alkyl- or aryl-phenol. The formation of the polyester resin may include the reaction of maleic acid or anhydride with substances (d) having fat acid radicals with isolated double bonds or with one pair of conjugated double bonds, or the adduct (b) may be formed using dehydrated castor oil or its fat acids, or a glyceride ester. The resin may contain radicals of tung oil fat acid which have not reacted with (c), and, in order to lower the stoving temperature necessary, the polyester resin may include a polyalkanolamine ester chemically associated therewith. The water miscible nitrogen base used may be ammonia or a monoamine or alkylamine, e. g. monoethylamine. Adduct forming acids which may be used instead of maleic acid as (c) include fumaric acid, itaconic acid and aconitic acid.
