Abstract

1,164,589. Thermal switches. UNITED-CARR Inc. 8 Aug., 1968, No. 37803/68. Heading H1N. A thermal switch released by a fusible element 80, Fig. 1, at a predetermined ambient temperature, comprises a movable contact 44 biased away from a fixed contact 36 by a coil spring 59 engaging a sleeve 54 which is normally held in the contacts closed position by spring tines 60 which are locked in the radially outward position by a slidable plunger 72 engaging the fusible element 80. In operation when the element 80 fuses the tines 60 which are preset to flex inwardly are released by the plunger 72 at cam faces 70 whereby the sleeve 54 is released. The movable contact 44 comprises a split plug 42 inserted within a fixed contact sleeve 36 and is connected to the terminal wire 14 through the conductive casing 10, tines 60 and sleeve 54. The fixed contact sleeve 36 is mounted in an insulating bush 34 and connected directly to a terminal wire 38.
