Abstract

1,164,195. Thermal storage heaters; central heating systems. RHEINISCH-WESTFALISCHES ELEKTRIZITATSWERK A.G. 9 June, 1967 [16 July, 1966], No. 26703/67. Addition to 1,104,790. Heading F4U. A thermal storage unit for heating water in a central heating system comprises cores 1 including pressure-tight heat exchange chambers 2 connected between a water line 5 and a steam manifold 4 from which steam generated in the chambers 2 passes to a direct contact heat exchanger 9 to heat water returning from the central heating radiators. Heated water passes from the exchanger 9 into the line 5 and a pump 6 returns water from the line 5 through a line 7 to the radiators. The line 5 is connected to a header tank 13. When there is low demand for hot water, steam pressure in the chambers 2 forces water into the header tank to reduce the heat input from the storage cores.
