Abstract
1,162,539. Spray-producers. HORSTINE FARMERY Ltd. 7 July, 1967 [29 Oct., 1966], No. 48597/66. Heading B2F. A portable dispenser for granular insecticide or seeds comprises a tubular body fitting onto a valve part 2 including a plate with a discharge orifice 3, the orifice being closed by a part-spherical surface 16 of an arm 15 attached to a rod 12 which is pivoted about an axle 5, the rod 12 being biased to the orifice-closing position by a spring (21), Fig. 3 (not shown). The axle 5 passes through a ball 4 frictionally received in an aperture in the part 2, and is carried by lugs (6, 7, Fig. 3). The ball 4 is secured to the rod 12 and carries an arm 8 which may be integral with or secured to the ball, the arm having a part-spherical surface 9 adapted to close the aperture 3 when the rod 12 is fully depressed, so that a small quantity of material is dispersed after the surface 16 is removed from closing engagement with the aperture 3. The upper surface 10 of the arm 8 is formed with flat divergent surfaces to agitate the material. The surface 9 may be replaced by a flat surface (24), Fig. 5 (not shown) which does not close the orifice 3, the arm 8 acting merely as an agitator. A plate 17 is mounted for rotation about an axis through the centre of the plate containing the orifice 3, the plate 17 being formed with apertures (18), Fig. 4 (not shown), of different sizes ranging up to the size of the orifice 3, a peripheral recess (19) being formed adjacent each aperture and adjacent an unperforated portion of the plate 17, a spring-loaded ball 20 being adapted to engage with a recess and hold the plate 17 in registered position. The spring (21) may be replaced by an elastic band. The rod 12 may be rocked by a finger, or may extend to the end of the shoot 23 and rocked by dragging or tapping on the ground.
