Abstract

1,161,209. Washing particles. M. K. MEHTA. 17 Jan., 1967 [12 May, 1966], No. 21199/66. Heading BlQ. . Particles such as capsules 13 are fed into the lower end section A of a rotating perforated cylinder 1, where they are immersed and washed in a bath 10 of naphtha; a helicoidal guide surface 3 within the cylinder carries the capsules, and up within an imperforate sleeve 15 around the cylinder, where they are washed in a section B by naphtha spray from a nozzle 16; finally, the capsules are carried up the cylinder to a section C, where they are again washed, this time by spray from a nozzle 17, the naphtha draining out through holes 2. Correctly-filled capsules are too large to pass through the holes 2, but incorrectly filled capsules fall through the holes and collect in a tray 22 in the naphtha bath 10. A refrigerator coil 11 cools the naphtha in the bath 10. The cylinder 1 is rotated by a motor 8 driving through a belt 9.
