A device for cleaning a window or other surface 18 comprises a roller 4 which is freely rotatable within a housing, a pair of wiper blades 16, 17 arranged generally parallel to the axis of the roller, and a liquid supply operable at will to discharge cleaning liquid along the length of the roller 4. The liquid supply may comprise a removable, flexible plastics bottle 10 forming a handle or being contained within a handle 11 having a lever 12. On squeezing the bottle 10 liquid therein urges a ball valve 13 off a seating 14 and into engagement with a seating 15 so that the cleaning liquid passes through a pipe 6 to a perforated pipe 5 extending parallel to the axis and along the length of the roller 4 which is engaged and rotated against the surface to be cleaned. The wiper blades 16, 17 deflect soiled liquid into a chamber 1 which may be provided with absorbent paper to soak up the used liquid or which may be provided with a filter adjacent the valve seating 15 so that when cleaning liquid is not urged from the bottle through the pipes 5, 6 the ball valve 13 can disengage from the seating 15 and allow filtered liquid from the chamber 1 back into the bottle 10. The roller 4 may comprise a former covered with open cell polyurethane foam having an outer covering of cotton duck material, and the wiper blades 16, 17 may be respectively of a rigid material to provide a squeegee action and a felt or other fibrous material.
