Abstract
1,151,393. Ethers of polyhydroxy compounds. FILMFABRIK WOLFEN, VEB. 23 June, 1967, No. 29141/67. Heading C3P. An ether of a polyhydroxy compound is prepared by (a) reacting together the polyhydroxy compound and an alkali metal alcoholate or an alkali metal-dialkyl sulphoxide compound, in which the alkyl groups have from 1 to 5 carbon atoms, in a dialkyl sulphoxide, in which the alkyl groups have from 1 to 5 carbon atoms, (b) precipitating and coagulating the alkali metalpolyhydroxy compound so formed by adding an inert organic liquid miscible with the dialkyl sulphoxide, and (c) suspending it in an inert organic liquid and adding an alkyl, alkenyl, aryl, aralkyl or aralkenyl halide to form the ether. Esterified ethers may be prepared by further adding an organic acid halide to the suspension. In the Examples are used: polyvinyl alcohol, dimethyl sulphoxide, sodium ethylate, benzene, allyl bromide, the sodium compound of dimethyl sulphoxide, cinnamyl bromide and benzoyl chloride.
