Abstract

1,150,383. Cleaning tanks. SALEN & WICANDER A.B. 14 June, 1966 [14 June, 1965; 12 May, 1966], No. 26563/66. Heading A4F. [Also in Division B2] In a cleaning apparatus for a ship's oil tank washing liquid is discharged through a nozzle 18 which is bent substantially at right angles and which oscillates about a horizontal axis whilst rotating about a vertical axis in such manner that a jet of liquid therefrom impinges on a zone of the tank wall which is horizontally continuous about said vertical axis but is vertically limited. The nozzle 18 is rotatably mounted in the wall of an extension 17 of a pipe 13 depending vertically from the ship's deck 10. A rod 25 passing through the pipe 13 carries a disc 26 guided for vertical movement by rods 27 and connected by a link 40 to a pin 41 on the nozzle 18. The rod 25 is rotated by a pneumatic motor 57 (Fig. 2, not shown) to rotate the pipe extension 17 relatively to the pipe 13, whilst a captive nut and screw device (60, 61) raises and lowers the rod 25 to operate the link 40 to oscillate the nozzle 18 about a horizontal axis. In addition the nozzle 18 may be oscillated by oscillating the rod 25 vertically by cam mechanism (Figs. 3 and 4, not shown).
