Abstract

1,146,288. Feeding tobacco. MOLINS MACHINE CO. Ltd. 6 July, 1966 [9 July, 1965], No. 29273/65. Heading A2C. In a cigarette making machine of the type in which tobacco is removed from a hopper by a carded roller from which it is picked and thrown into an airstream in which it is carried airborne to be built up on a suction backed porous conveyer to form a continuous rod feed; tobacco is picked off the carded roller by a picker roller 8, directed along the surface of a concave plate 9A, and projected by a ribbed roller 19 towards the entry 3A of a narrow confined passage leading to the porous conveyer, the tobacco entering the passage at 3A where two converging airstreams A, B merge into a single path. The upper airstream B is controllable by means of a perforated sliding shutter 18. In another embodiment curved vanes (20) are arranged in the path of the airstream B, to direct it, just next to the point of confluence of the two airstreams.
