Abstract

The invention relates to compounds of the general formula <FORM:1039459/C2/1> wherein R is an alkyl or haloalkyl group and X is an alkyl, aryl or alkaryl sulphate or sulphonate ion. Compounds claimed per se are: S-methyl-2,6-dichlorothiobenzimidate methyl sulphate; S - methyl - 2,6 - dichlorothiobenzimidate ethanesulphonate; S-methyl-2,6-dichlorothiobenzimidate benzenesulphonate; S-methyl - 2,6 - dichlorothiobenzimidate p - toluenesulphonate; S - ethyl - 2,6 - dichlorothiobenzimidate methanesulphonate; S - ethyl - 2,6-dichlorothiobenzimidate ethyl sulphate; S-ethyl - 2,6 - dichlorothiobenzimidate p-toluenesulphonate; S - (2 - chlorethyl) - 2,6 - dichlorothiobenzimidate p - toluenesulphonate; S - (n-propyl) - 2,6 - dichlorothiobenzimidate p - toluenesulphonate; S - (3 - chloropropyl) - 2,6 - dichlorothiobenzimidate p - toluenesulphonate; S - (n - butyl) - 2,6 - dichlorothiobenzimidate methanesulphonate; S - (n - butyl) - 2,6 - dichlorothiobenzimidat benzenesulphonate; S-(n - butyl) - 2,6 - dichlorothiobenzimidate p-toluenesulphonate. The compounds may be prepared by reacting 2,6-dichlorothiobenzamide with a compound of the formula RX wherein R is an alkyl or haloalkyl and X is an alkyl, aryl or alkaryl sulphate or sulphonate ion.ALSO:Herbicidal compositions comprise as active ingredient a compound of the general formula <FORM:1039459/A5-A6/1> in which R is an alkyl or haloalkyl group and X is an alkyl, aryl or alkaryl sulphate or sulphonate ion and a carrier or surface active agent or both a carrier and a surface active agent. The composition may be formulated as a wettable powder, a dust, granules, a concentrate, a solution, an emulsifiable concentrate, a conventional emulsion, an invert emulsion, or an encapsulated material. Many active ingredients, carriers and surface active agents are specified.
