Abstract
1,039,275. Rolling. DAVY & UNITED ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. Oct. 5, 1964 [Oct. 11, 1963], No. 40321/63. Heading B3M. In a four-high rolling mill the upper work roll chocks 17 have downwardly extending arms 21 which slidably engage the mill housing and embrace the chocks 18 of the lower work roll 20. The upper backing roll chocks 13 similarly have arms 23 which embrace the chocks 17, balancing cylinders 24 being mounted in these arms. Rails 28 are supported by vertical links 29 attached to the balancing beams 30 of the chocks 13, so that by raising these beams prior to roll changing the rails are lifted into contact with wheels 27 in the chocks 21. The work roll chocks are thus removable as a unit along the rails. The chocks 17 and 18 may alternatively be held together for removal by inwardly directed bolts in the arms 21 engaging in vertical slots in the chocks 18, or by vertical bolts extending from the chocks 18 to engage in T- shaped recesses in the chocks 17. A sledge arrangement is provided below the lower backing roll chocks so that all four rolls may be removed, if desired.
