Abstract

The usual knot tying apparatus for tying a weaver's knot is modified to enable a weaver's knot to be tied when the yarns are presented to the apparatus from opposite directions. To this end first one yarn F1 is presented to the beak of the apparatus and the beak is manipulated by turning it through 180 degrees and back again to cause a loop to be formed in the yarn, Fig. 5 (not shown). The second yarn F2 is then presented to the outside of the beak, Fig. 6 (not shown) and the beak is then twisted through 360 degrees to twist the second yarn about the first and to engage the second yarn in its beak, Fig. 9 (not shown.) The two yarns are then lifted off the beak to complete the weaver's knot Fig. 11 (not shown). The apparatus for performing the knot tying operation is provided with double portion spiral 15 on the shank of the beak 1, Fig. 12 (not shown) which is manipulated by the slotted rod 14, cam actuated to impart the desired twisting motions to the beak. The usual sinkers 4 present the yarns F1, F2 in turn to the beak after they have been extended in slots over the plates 2.
