Abstract

1,034,023. Rotary-piston internal combustion engines. FORD MOTOR CO. Ltd. April 12, 1965 [April 22, 1964], No. 15388/65. Heading F1F. A rotary-piston I.C. engine of the geared vane or piston type having two sets of pistons geared together so that one set, the working pistons rotate at constant angular velocity and the other set, the phasing pistons alternately accelerate and retard to vary the volume between adjacent working and phasing pistons, comprises a planet pinion 7 freely rotatable on an arm 5 connected to an output shaft 4 driven by the working pistons 2 and operatively connected by a chain 8 to a sun gear 9 fixed to the casing 1 so that as the pinion 7 bodily rotates about the axis of the shaft 4 in one direction it rotates about its own axis in the opposite direction. A member 11 slidable in a guide 6 secured to the phasing pistons 3 co-operates with a crank 10 secured to the pinion 7 to accelerate and retard the phasing pistons. Fuel is admitted through an inlet 13, compressed between adjacent working and phasing pistons, ignited by a spark-plug 12 and the spent gases exhausted through an outlet 14.
