Abstract
The invention comprises compounds of the formula <FORM:1031425/C2/1> where R1 represents a C1- 5 alkyl group an R2 represents an alkyl, alkenyl or alkynyl group containing 3 carbon atoms, which may be substituted by a halogen atom; acid addition salts thereof; and processes for their preparation comprising (a) reacting a compound of the formula <FORM:1031425/C2/2> with a compound of the formula X-R2, where X represents a halogen atom or a sulphonic acid ester radical, or (b) reacting a compound of the formula <FORM:1031425/C2/3> with a compound of the formula HNR1R2, or (c) condensing phenyl acetone with a compound of the formula HNR1R2 with simultaneous or subsequent reduction of the resulting condensation product, or (d) reacting a compound of Formula II with pronionaldehyde, acrolein or propargyl aldehyde (to prepare compounds in which R2 represents an n-propyl, allyl or prop-2-ynyl radical), or (e) reacting a compound of Formula II with formaldehyde and acetylene (to prepare compounds which R2 represents a prop-2-ynyl radical), or (f) reducing a compound of Formula II in which R2 represents an alkenyl or alkynyl radical (to prepare compounds in which R2 represents an alkyl or alkenyl radical), or (g) dehydrating or dehydrohalogenating a compound of Formula II in which R2 represents a hydroxyalkyl, hydroxyalkenyl, haloalkyl or haloalkenyl group (to prepare compounds in which R2 represents an alkenyl or alkynyl radical). Pharmaceutical compositions having psychostimulant, antidepressant, metabolism increasing and appetite suppressant activity, for oral, topical or parenteral administration, comprise a compound of the invention together with a pharmaceutical carrier or excipient.
