Abstract

1,029,841. Pipe couplings. BUCKEYE IRON & BRASS WORKS. Jan. 6, 1965, No. 596/65. Heading F2G. A coupler for coupling a fluid supply hose to a receiver of fluid comprises a body 10 swivelly connected as by a ball bearing 16, 18 at one end to the hose and a valve member 42 mounted at the other end. The valve member is connected through a number of pivotally connected links to a shaft which in turn is connected to an operating lever 76 pivoted on the body by a pin on an eccentric of the shaft co-operating with a groove in the lever. The linkage is such that a 90 degrees movement of the lever causes an 180 degrees rotation of the shaft. A sleeve 32 sealingly and resiliently mounted in the body is provided with a sealing ring 38, the valve member, in its closed position, abutting he sealing ring and also the lower end of the leeve 32. A shroud member 84 which is preferably splitis rotatably mounted on the body and is provided with a lug ring 90 which includes flange 92 interrupted at predetermined points to form one half of a bayonet type connector. The lug ring 90 is provided with a bumper ring 94. An interlock ring 98 is mounted about the sleeve 32 and is urged outwardly by a spring such that on the introduction of the other member 104 of the bayonet connector the connecting members are held against each other. A plunger is slidingly mounted on the body, the ends of the plunger co-operating with cams in the shaft and shroud such that the valve can only be opened when the coupling is effected (Fig. 2, not shown).
