Abstract

1,029,064. Leg-rest actuating mechanism. LA-Z-BOY CHAIR CO. Feb. 27, 1963 [May 21, 1962], No. 7940/63. Heading A4J. A leg-rest 34, which is attached to the seat frame of a rocking chair, and is movable between a leg-supporting position and a retracted position by extensible linkage 36, has a supplemental mechanism 70 which holds the leg-rest 34 tightly against the seat frame in its retracted position. The leg-rest is lifted by rotating a shaft 58, by means of an arm 62, Fig. 1 (not shown), so that a link 50 turns anti-clockwise engaging a notch 67 of link 40 with a stop tab 64 on link 50 and so lifts the leg-rest 34 by extending the linkage 36. The leg-rest is held in this position by the engagement of the stop tab 64 with a finger 68 on link 40. The supplemental mechanism 70, Fig. 4 (not shown), comprises a link 94 with a tip 96 extending through an aperture 98 in a bent link 100, and a spring 102 connected between a fixed surface and the other end of the link 100. The force of the spring 102 on the links 94, 100 imposes a clockwise movement 171 on the actuating shaft 58 which is transmitted through the link 52 to remove any slack existing in the supporting linkage 36.
