Abstract

1,028,624. Pipe coupling. TITECO ESTABLISHMENT. Feb. 8, 1963 [Feb. 20, 1962], No. 5174/63. Heading F2G. A pipe fitting 1 of rigid material for tubes of plastics, particularly polyethylene, has a tapered bore 2 ending in a sharp edge 12 of less diameter than the opening of the fitting, beyond the sharp edge being a portion 4 of larger diameter, the length of the enlarged portion being between 5 mm. plus 1/ 6 and 15 mm. plus 1/ 3 of the smallest diameter of the fitting at the transistion between the tapered portion and the enlarged portion. The tapered portion can be conical or curved and may have sawtooth ribs with one side at right angles to the fitting axis or may have ribs with both sides at an angle to the normal to the axis. The sharp edge 12 may be followed by a further sharp edge 13 and the enlarged portion 4 may contain sealing ribs. Two fittings may be joined back to back or the fitting may contain a screwthreaded portion 17 or the fitting may form an elbow. The enlarged portion may have a further edge or elbow 18 to act as a step for the inserted tube 5.
