Abstract

<PICT:1026192/C4-C5/1> In a process for gasifying liquid fuels air and the liquid fuel in finely divided form are introduced through a pipe 6 and an axially disposed nozzle respectively cuts one end of a narrow elongated reaction chamber 1 and the reacting mixture is surrounded by an envelope of steam and/or product gas introduced into the chamber through nozzles 4. The chamber 1 has a length/diameter ratio greater than 4 and the liquid fuel is injected with air, steam and/or product gas as a divergent jet having an angle of at least 20 degrees. The injected stream of steam and/or product gas may flow linearly along the wall of the chamber or be given a rotational movement.
