Abstract
1,025,334. Electrostatic precipitators. OMNICAL GESELLSCHAFT FUR KESSEL UND APPARATEBAU m.b.H. Nov. 12,1962 [Dec. 15, 1961], No. 42722/62. Heading B2J. Collecting electrodes are perforated and set astride the flow of gas or vapour to be purified so that turbulence is produced in the annular regions surrounding the apertures and the remainder of the electrode surface is stagnant to facilitate precipitation. The apertures may be circular or slots, or may be fitted with tubular inserts with flanged or curved ends to cast a shadow to the gas flow on the electrode, see Fig. 4a not shown. As shown in Fig. 2 discharge electrodes 2 are dispersed between two collecting electrodes 1 and subsequent stages of precipitation are separated by field free spaces 10 by which means collection occurs on both sides of the electrodes. The size of the apertures may diminish from stage to stage in the direction of gas flow. A mist of droplets may be projected at high pressure against the gas flow and towards the collecting electrode to encourage collection. The discharge electrodes may be connected to an alternating voltage source to prevent accummulation of surface charges and to promote coagulation of gas borne particles.
