Abstract

1,023,981. Condensing vapours. BALTIMORE AIRCOIL CO. Inc. Nov. 30, 1962, No. 45526/62. Heading B1B. [Also in Division F4] Vapour, e.g. of a refrigerant, is cooled by means of a stream of water in heat exchanger 18, and the vapour then enters coil 23 mounted in a casing 10 which also houses a spray header 20, through which water from heat-exchanger 18 is sprayed downwardly over the coil 23, while a fan 25 forces air upwardly through the casing to evaporate the descending water. The vapour is condensed in coil 23, and the condensate leaves through conduit 24. The water collects in a sump 11 and is returned by a pump 15 to heat exchanger 18 and header 20. In the embodiment of Fig. 2 (not shown), the water is recirculated from the sump 35 to the header 44 via a coil 40a which is coaxial with and enclosed by the condenser coil 40b.
