A dustpan and brush device comprises a pan 1 open at one end and closed at the other, and a brush 11 which is so shaped that it can fit closely into and thereby close the open end of the container with the brush extending into the container. The open end of the dustpan with flat edges 6, 7, 8 against which a shoulder formed on the brush can abut.
