Abstract

In a process of making a metal sheet a layer of a metal containing powder is sandwiched between two impermeable metal sheets, the assembly is heated in a reducing atmosphere and then hot or cold rolled. The two metal sheets may be of the same or different materials and the metal powder may be different from the metal of one or both sheets. A non metallic powder such as non metallic elements, metal oxides, carbides, nitrides, silicides or borides may also be included in the powder metal layer. Examples are given of the sintering at 1350 DEG C. of iron powder sandwiched between iron or steel sheets and hot or cold rolling of the composite. Powder mixtures of iron and 15% copper, iron and 2% silica and alumina are also disclosed.
