A device for reducing the nicotine content of tobacco smoke comprises a receptacle 1, partially filled with water A, with a removable stopper 2 with two tubes 3 and 4 sealed therein, the tube 3 being adapted to receive a cigarette or the like and projecting towards the bottom of the receptacle and the tube 4 being adapted to receive a mouthpiece 6 and terminating at the top of the receptacle. The bottom end of the tube 3 is provided with a closed perforated end 5 and both tubes are bent over at right angles on emerging from the stopper 2 the horizontal portions 3<SP>1</SP> and 4<SP>1</SP> being provided with fluid tight valves 8 and 9. The receptacle may be made of glass or plastic material and may be provided with a mark indicating the level to which it should be filled with water.
