Abstract
1,006,444. Cooling cement clinker. CIMENTS LAFARGE. Sept. 27, 1961 [July 25, 1961], No. 34761/61. Heading F4B. [Also in Division G3] Clinker from a cement kiln is cooled on a moving grate 1 which runs over air chambers 2, 3 and 3<SP>1</SP>, the cooling air being recirculated through a pipe 19 to the first chamber 2. The chamber 2 is sub-divided into compartments 4 and 5, chamber 5 being at least twice as large as chamber 4, and the pressure of air in each compartment being controlled by shutters 8 and 9 set so that for a constant thickness of clinker over compartments 4 and 5, the pressure in each is the same. The grate speed is controlled by a servomotor regulated by fluctuations from a reference signal of an output signal defined by the quantity: p + k[#p - (#p)m], where p is the long period average of the means of the air pressures in the said compartments, k is a constant, #p is the instantaneous pressure difference between said compartments, and (# p )m is an average taken over a limited time interval, of the pressure difference between the compartments The pressures are measured by pressure-sensing devices and passed on to an electronic signal-combining device having proportional, integral, and differential actions, which device transmits said output signal to the gate speed regulator. The chambers 3 and 3<SP>1</SP> are supplied with air from a separate source S, the flow being controlled by valves 14<SP>x</SP> via a control device 14 connected to a thermocouple 13 situated close above the clinker bed. A constant flow rate to the chamber 2 is ensured by a valve device 10 controlled by pressure variations measured at a diaphragm 15. The pressure under the hood H is controlled by fans 16 and valve devices 17. To prevent pressure variations in chamber 3 reacting upon the air pressure in compartment 5, a fan 12 is located in a casing 11 (Fig. 2) forming part of the air-seal between chambers 3 and 2, the air pressure in the casing being maintained higher than that in the adjacent chambers to cause a leak thereinto.
