Abstract

Substantially spherical zeolites which are crystallographically pure and resistant to attrition are prepared by instantaneously dispersing an alkali metal silicate solution in an alkali metal aluminate solution containing preformed crystals of the zeolite in question, under continuous agitation to prevent the formation of a gelatinous precipitate of alkali metal silico-aluminate. The temperature of the reaction vessel is kept between 70 DEG and 110 DEG C. The zeolite agglomerates may be grown by removing part of the mixture in the reaction vessel and replacing it with fresh silicate and aluminate either in a batch process or continuously, a filter being provided to remove the agglomerates when they reach a certain size.
