Abstract
A cast steel containing in percentage by weight <TABS:1096978/C6-C7/1> is homogenized at a temperature in the range 925 DEG -1010 DEG C., cooled to a temperature at which it transforms to the martensitic state, and conditioned in the range 540 DEG -675 DEG C. for 1 to 8 hours. It is then, either with or without intermediate cooling, solution treated in the range 730 DEG -870 DEG C. for 1 to 10 hours, again cooled to bring about a martensitic transformation, and finally aged in the range 425 DEG -540 DEG C. for up to 24 hours. The steel may contain as incidental elements <TABS:1096978/C6-C7/2> The heat-treated steel has improved resistance to stress-corrosion cracking and is suitable for gun parts, tools, rolls, and dies.
