Abstract

A tobacco smoke filter has incorporated therein a monomeric water-soluble hydrazide that reacts with aldehyde vapours to immobilize them. The hydrazide is preferably applied as an aqueous solution by spraying on to a conventional filter tow material in the form of a spread out or "bloomed" tow, and the material is then dried and formed into filters. Hydrazides exemplified are the dihydrazides of diglycolic, malonic and oxalic acids.
