Abstract

1,093,118. Mineral-mining equipment. GEBR. EICKHOFF MASCHINENFABRIK U. EISENGIESSEREI m.b.H. June 29, 1966 [June 30, 1965], No. 29181/66. Heading E1F. To permit of detection of any roof cavitation along a longwall face during mining thereof when the mining is remotely controlled from off of the face the height of the roof at the face is measured as it is cut and this height is compared with the simultaneously measured height of the roof formed in the previous cut along the face. The height of the roof being cut is determined by measuring the angle of the roof cutting means-carrying arm of a longwall mining machine by an associated potentiometer, whilst the other height is measured by a wave transmitter and receiver mounted on the machine.
