Abstract

FeSO4.H2O is prepared by continuously supplying a hot aqueous crystal-free saturated solution of FeSO4.7H2O to a crystallizer, and supplying heat thereto to maintain a temperature at which solid FeSO4.H2O is stable in contact with a saturated solution of FeSO4.7H2O, continuously removing the liquor containing solid FeSO4.H2O and separating it therefrom. The mother liquor may be recycled to the crystallizer, which may be that disclosed in Specification 1,090,022. The temperature in the crystallizer may be maintained by passing the liquors therein over a heating element, the temperature difference of the entering and exiting liquors passing thereover being 0.5-2.0 DEG C. A part of the crystal-free liquor in the crystallizer may be withdrawn and worked up to recover FeSO4.7H2O which is recycled to prepare further saturated solution thereof, or the crystal-free liquor may be used to dissolve further FeSO4.7H2O to form the saturated solution.
