A ferromagnetic ferrite has the composition 50-60 mol. per cent Fe 2 O 3 , 15-50 mol. per cent MnO, 0-30 mol. per cent ZnO, 0À1-0À5 mol. per cent CoO and 0À01-2À0 mol per cent TiO 2 . In preparation, sulphates of the appropriate metals are mixed together and heated to 950 Œ 20‹ C. to form, by decomposition, a mixture of the oxides. This is pressed into shape, sintered at 1200‹ to 1300‹ C., and cooled in an atmosphere in which the partial pressure of oxygen is varied to maintain a constant ferrite composition. As an alternative, the oxide mixture may be formed by directly mixing the appropriate oxides.
