Abstract

In a pressure-sensitive copying system including at least one pair of transfer and receiving sheets, the colour-generating system between adjacent sheet surfaces comprises (a) at least one substantially colourless first chromogenic material, which may be basic, and (b) at least one polymeric material which may be acidic, and is capable of reacting with the first chromogenic material in the presence of a common solvent (c) which is contained as discrete droplets in a pressure-rupturable medium, and (d) a light-colouring second chromogenic material selected from N-pivalyl-leuco-methylene blue, 2, 2 dimethylbutyryl-leuco-methylene blue or p-anisoyl-leuco-methylene blue, or mixtures thereof, which is supported on the transfer sheet but is transferred to the receiving sheet on release of the solvent thus preventing fading of the colour generated on the receiving sheet. The colour-formers and solvent may all be present on or in the transfer sheet or one or more of the solvent, first chromogenic material or polymer can be present on or in the receiving sheet. The polymer or the first chromogenic material may be dissolved in the solvent or they may be in solid form on or in either the transfer or the receiving sheet. The second chromogenic material may be dispersed or dissolved within the solvent in the transfer sheet or may be dispersed in the transfer sheet in finely divided form or in solution. The component(s) of the colour-generating system can be incorporated into the paper furnish, wet web or finished paper. Examples of suitable first chromogenic materials, polymers and solvents are given.
